Well at least we aren't the only ones with unfavorable sterotypes abroad...

This just makes me chuckle, the BBC ran a similar story a few weeks ago, still funny... I mean distressing... I mean funny.

Some Britons Too Unruly for Resorts in Europe

I read this this morning and had the exact same thought. Finally, a group of people are more obnoxious than we are, stereotypically speaking at least. Yay for bundling people into categories!

my favorite line: "...helping to cement Britain’s reputation as the largest exporter of inebriated hooligans in Europe."

And, seriously, elizabeth, stereotypes are true because their true, right? I'm gonna go eat a hamburger and some potato chips now while I polish my gun.

I brought this article up in school this week in a class discussion that involved lowering the drinking age to eighteen. It was some handy knowledge.

Nice... I'm glad Josh could help! Under-age drinking is a huge problem here, as is binge drinking when you are 'of age' (over 18). It's been in the news quite a bit lately. We've seen groups of teenagers- about age 15 or so- sitting around just downing the two liters of alcoholic cider you can get here. It's weird to see so many people just out in the open drinking.

However, other countries in Europe, those along the Mediterranean in particular, have an even lower drinking age but fewer problems. I think it really has to do with the dominant cultural view of alcohol. Here, as in the USA, it allows you to give yourself permission (not legally, of course) to act out, be violent or aggressive, ignore rules... Other cultures don't have the perception that alcohol promotes aggression and, even though alcohol lowers inhibitions, the same issues don't come up as often. Researchers have even done studies giving out real and mock alcoholic beverages, and not knowing some of the ‘alcohol’ was fake, both groups allowed themselves to act more aggressively!

But I'm sure with that discussion you know more about it than we do! :)
