New Delhi... or at least our brief stay in Delhi.

Delhi! We weren't here long and it's a huge city, so this post is going to be rather short... but hopefully mildy interesting. We didn't see enough of the city to give an exhaustive feel, so it's really just a collection of pictures.

The colossal Red Fort in Delhi, all decked out for Independence Day. It felt like a medieval video game.
There are a couple of reasons why this post is short. Part of it is that a chunk of our time in Delhi was spent taking care of logistics. Part of it was that we happened to be there for India's Day of Independence. We were at first excited by this because surely something cool would happen, right? But no... apparently they celebrate in fashion on "Republic Day" in January. Independence Day apparently is just a day off work... which also means all the tourist attractions are closed. (Sigh). We did see some fireworks off in the distance and we found out later that all the kites we saw flying were also a holiday tradition. Despite the closures, we had a nice time, so here are a few photos of our days in Delhi.
The Jama Masjid mosque, the principle mosque of Delhi. It had a huge courtyard, birds, the works.
We were also able to go up one of the centuries-old minarets with an amazing view. (As you can see.) The city stretches out to the horizon, concrete, brick, and people, as far as the eye can see.

Inside the mosque.

This huge piece of fried dough is called a dosa. It's about the size of beach ball (deflated). It's isn't that thick but when you just look at the size of the thing I almost get intimidated.
Megan liked this picture because of the "Use Me" signs on the trash cans. Delhi was far from a clean city (there was a massive pile of trash outside of the Jama Masjid, about 20 ft. x 60 ft. and two feet deep) and so it was good to see them trying. They still have a long way to go though but they are trying! We were also impressed by the new subway...
