Koh Tao

Well, we've finally managed to give ourselves a vacation from our vacation! After working our way south through Thailand, we've found ourselves on the small island of Koh Tao, a great diving destination off the East coast. Being an island, everything is terribly more expensive than the rest of the country, including internet, but we are hoping to do a few quick posts of our last week (including one with lots of elephants, you Wiersma kids) in the next few days. Here are just a few photos around here...

Catching the boat at sunrise
Yes, this is the view from our bungalow (we won't talk about how big that bungalow is). We got free accomodation with our dive course- our first real dive was today. The view in the evening...

So, how was your diving experience?

This will sound strange, but we actually know a bunch of dive instructors and divemasters in the Similans - almost all are freelance journeymen, so we met about a dozen while we were there. Our favorite was a Brit named Neil. Don't suppose the world is so small that we encountered some of the same people, but it would be cool if so. And folks, as beutiful as the Andaman is on top, it is even more so under the surface.
Oh, I want to go diving so bad that it hurts! Tell us all about it!

Actually, I can spell 'beautiful' if I try real hard.

Eric,

We talked to Matt and Sarah and when push came to shove our time was tight and they recomended that we head north sooner rather than later... a decision we were both happy with and sad about. It would ahve been great to see people, but everyone said "go north, go north"

Brad, we will write more about this later but diving is great and you are still my friend even if you can't spell beautiful. But no, haven't met anyone who is/has been working in the Similans... though I hear good things about the diving.
